If I were staying with a British family and they offered to visit a zoo, the conversation might go something like this:
Host: «We were thinking of visiting the zoo this weekend. Would you like to come with us?»
Me: «Thank you for the offer, but I’m not really interested in going to the zoo.»
Host: «Oh, really? Why not?»
Me: «Well, I’m not a big fan of seeing animals in captivity. I prefer to see them in their natural habitats.»
Host: «I see. That’s a valid point. But the zoo here is really well-maintained and the animals are treated very well.»
Me: «I’m sure that’s true, but it’s just a personal preference of mine. I’d rather do something else this weekend.»
Host: «Okay, no problem. Is there anything else you’d like to do instead?»
Me: «Actually, I was thinking of visiting a local museum. I’ve heard there’s a really interesting exhibit on British history.»
Host: «That sounds great! We’d be happy to take you there. Let’s plan on going on Saturday morning.»
Me: «Thank you so much! I’m really looking forward to it.»
