In the next section of the story, the winter is over and the Miller goes to visit Hans. As the Miller approaches Hans’ house, he sees Hans sitting outside, enjoying the warm sunshine.
Miller: «Good day, Hans! It’s been a long winter, hasn’t it?»
Hans: «Yes, it has. But I’m glad it’s over. How have you been?»
Miller: «I’ve been well, thank you. I’ve been busy with work, but I wanted to come and see how you were doing.»
Hans: «I’m doing well, thank you. I’ve been keeping busy with my farm work. The winter was tough, but I managed to get through it.»
Miller: «That’s good to hear. I was worried about you during the winter. Did you have enough food and firewood?»
Hans: «Yes, I did. I had enough to get by. But I appreciate your concern.»
Miller: «I’m glad to hear that. I also wanted to talk to you about the deal we made last year. Do you remember it?»
Hans: «Yes, I remember. You gave me your old donkey in exchange for some of my wheat.»
Miller: «That’s right. I was wondering if you would be interested in making another deal this year. I have some extra flour that I would be willing to trade for some of your eggs.»
Hans: «I would be interested in that. How much flour do you have?»
Miller: «I have about 20 pounds of flour. How many eggs would you be willing to trade for that?»
Hans: «I could give you a dozen eggs for that amount of flour. Does that sound fair?»
Miller: «That sounds like a fair deal to me. Thank you, Hans. I appreciate your willingness to trade with me.»
Hans: «No problem, Miller. It’s always good to help each other out.»
As the Miller and Hans continue to talk, they enjoy the warm sunshine and the beginning of a new season. They both know that they can rely on each other for support and help whenever they need it.
