One of the most famous landmarks in my country, the United States, is the Statue of Liberty. Located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, the statue was a gift from France to the United States in 1886 to commemorate the centennial of American independence.
Designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, the statue stands at 305 feet tall and is made of copper sheets that have turned green over time due to oxidation. The statue depicts a woman holding a torch in her right hand and a tablet in her left hand, on which is inscribed the date of American independence, July 4, 1776.
